Finally, Marge will be responsible for coordinating our ongoing delivery manager training program. Marge will continue to report to Jim Fowler. Dave Jutras has relocated to Somerville, MA to take operational control of the Bell Atlantic initial delivery work we were awarded in February. This increased responsibility for Dave was a result of his great work in the independent group over the past few years. Dave will be reporting to Stan Sivori, Vice President—Eastern Operations. For any of you that might not know, Dave is a New Hampshire native and worked in Boston for R. H. Donnelley before working for DDA. We wish Dave the best of luck in his return “home.” Jim Ward has relocated to St. Louis from Las Vegas to take over Dave’s responsibilities as Division Manager – Independent Operations. This well-earned promotion for Jim gets him closer to home (Champaign, Illinois) as well. Jim is responsible for our contracts with Sprint, GTE, CenDon, CBD, and L. M. Berry and will be reporting to Jack Runk, Vice President—Central Region. Jim’s appointment continues our tradition of promoting from within. Safety Programs "Working to Eliminate Injuries” Maintaining employee safety is one of the primary objectives and responsibilities of the DDA organization. Management and employees working together accept this responsibility through active support of all safety programs. The Corporate Safety Committee establishes and monitors safety programs to provide and maintain a safe work environment. This committee promotes an awareness of safety, adherence to safety rules, and identification of potential hazards. Initial Delivery Safety Program DDA’s enhanced safety program was introduced in 1999 specifically designed to address the safety needs of initial delivery operations. An overview of this program is included in all Initial Delivery Manager training sessions and is part of the Delivery Manager Procedures Manual. Key elements include safety inspections, establishment of safety rules, truck driver screening and hiring procedures, special accident investigation and record keeping procedures, and identification of management responsibility. Warehousing and Office Facility Safety ProgramThe Warehousing and Office Facility Safety Program has been revised and will be implemented in June in response to Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) regulations. The revised manual includes a Forklift Operator Training Section, which requires operator certification and site-specific training. DDA Participation in Ronald McDonald House Volunteer Dinner Program DDA completed a second rewarding year of participation in the Ronald McDonald House of St. Louis volunteer dinner program. This program provides visiting families with critically ill children an opportunity to enjoy a home cooked meal. DDA employees and their families planned menus, purchased food and prepared meals. The dinners were a great success with the guests. DDA’s final dinner of the year ended the millennium on a festive note. On New Year’s Eve we supplied not only the food for the celebration, but also party supplies and sparkling cider. The Dinner Program Manager indicated that the party was a pleasant surprise for the families spending the holidays away from home. All employees who participated have found this program gratifying and look forward to another wonderful year.
